Dear WACRA members,

Time flies, it is almost two months since our annual WACRA conference took place in Helsinki, Finland. Based on feedback and talks with many of you, the conference was a success and you all got plenty of good ideas to take back to your departments.

As I said at the end of the conference, on behalf of the WACRA Board and Finnair I want to thank all participants, thanks to you we had an excellent atmosphere and of course some fun as well as key learnings. Each and every one of you had a part in making it such a successful event. I was worried about the weather, which is common for Finns, when really needed the weather was great and we had a nice sunset in the restaurant on the island.

We want to thank the great sponsors and as of course our speakers, without you there would be no event. As promised the conference material is available on the WACRA website.

Now the WACRA board will start to look ahead to 2017 which is fast approaching. Where are we going, is still a big secret so stay tuned for the news. As soon as we can announce our venue we will and we’d love to see you all with us again in 2017.

Warm Regards,

Greetings from Helsinki, the summer season has just started and Helsinki and Finnair are ready and honoured to host the 58th Annual WACRA conference Sunday 28 through to Wednesday 31 August.

Last week we had a very productive WACRA board meeting here in Helsinki at our conference venue the Crowne Plaza hotel. We visited the conference facilities and spent time finalizing the agenda, which we will be publishing on WACRA.com soon.

We all understand how important it is to have key industry partners join us and provide updates and inspiring presentations. So let me tell you the agenda looks very interesting and comprehensive.

We’ve pleased to confirm that a representative from the EU Commission will give us a presentation regarding EU 261/2004 and update including a Q&A session, something I’m sure will be of interest to us all.

  • Mr. Chaitan Jain from IATA will join us again to provide an update on Global Regulation and run a benchmark discussion.
  • Mr. Jerry Fletcher, former Social Media Manager at Delta & now VP Customer Success with Spark Central will give us a social media update.
  • Mr. Pekka Pohjakallio, former VP at Nokia Concepting Innovation & Solutions Unit, will run an interactive workshop about leadership. Mr Pohjakallio will also speak about workplace revolution and work myths.

We will have at least two speakers from Finnair regarding megatrends in the airline industry and digital transformation, both hot topics at present.

Valuable Customer Engagement Framework and benchmark results will be presented by SOCAP (Society of Consumer Affairs Professionals). SOCAP is a member-driven organization committed to promoting customer care and customer engagement as a competitive advantage in business.

The agenda will also cover a session on passengers with disabilities with Eric Lipp, Founder and Executive Director at Open Doors. We have other very interesting and exciting speakers / topics planned which will be confirmed soon.

We are excited to have a good number of sponsors onboard this year, all of which you will have time to meet and discuss with how their products and services could give your airline an advantage.

This year we’ve taken the pain out of registering process with an easy registration portal which is now live and available on wacra.com You can now pay the conference fee and book a hotel room at the same time. Please don’t delay registering, we have discounted hotel rates available to book through to the end of June and your early registration helps us to continue our conference planning and preparations.

Don’t forget to like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter for updates about this year’s conference.

If you have any questions about the conference, how to arrive to Helsinki, the best way to get to the hotel or even tips on what to do while in Helsinki, I am happy to assist you.

For those of you taking the opportunity to spend more time in Finland either before or after the conference there is useful information available at VisitFinland.com

On behalf of the entire Board, we look forward to seeing you all soon in Helsinki.

    Warm Regards,

    Sami Mäenpää
